Prometheus Art is a Partnership, LLC, owner operated by Amanda Matthews and Brad Connell. Prometheus foundry, studios, and offices are located in a 10,000 square foot facility at Prometheus Farm, which is also the location of Prometheus Botanical and Sculpture Gardens.
Prometheus Art Foundry is licensed, insured, bonded, and certified WBE, DBE, and SBE. Both Amanda and Brad are accomplished, award-winning designers, sculptors, and conservators with 50+ years of combined professional experience. Previously a full-service commercial bronze foundry located in downtown Lexington, they merged their businesses and converted to a large, private studio in 2009, which is now located in 10,000 s.f. of a beautifully restored horse barn on their farm in Lexington, KY.
Amanda is from Louisville, KY and earned her BA in Fine Art/ Philosophy from U of L, and also studied Fine Art & Architecture in Paris, France in 1989. She has been awarded 22+ professional grants for her work representing women and nature. She was awarded the NAWBO Business Owner of the Year STRIVE Award for Kentucky/Southern Indiana for 2018. She focuses on public art, including design/build of monuments, portraits, and public parks; and restoration/conservation work. Her ongoing decade-long body of work of dryads, the female spirit of the trees, is called "Messengers". She is currently creating the first three life size bronze sculptures honoring women to be placed on public land in Kentucky's 225 year history, including the first woman to be honored with statuary in the Kentucky State Capitol Building.
Brad is from Atlanta, GA and studied Architecture at Georgia Tech before finishing his BFA at Georgia State University. He later earned his MFA from UK and taught there for 8 years. As a recipient of a Research Grant, he travelled to Krakow, Poland and built a metal foundry for The Academy of Fine Art and The University of Mining and Metallurgy, and was a Visiting Artist at The University of Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton, England. He focuses on design, fabrication, and casting of architectural work, restoration and conservation.
